1. Manuscripts should be submitted in duplicate either to the Editorial Board of Partial Differential Equations, Institute of Mathematics, Zhengzhou University, Zhengzhou 450052, Henan, P.R. China, or to one of the members of the Editorial Committee who, in the opinion of the author, is most closely concerned with the subject matter of the paper.

2. Manuscripts are accepted for review with the understanding that the same work is not and will not be under consideration for publication elsewhere, and that its submission for publication has been approved by all of the authors and by the institution where the work was carried out. By submitting a manuscript, the author(s) agree(s) that the copyright for his/their article is transferred to the publisher if and when the paper is accepted for publication.

3. The "Short Communication Section'' contains contributions of at most 3 journal pages, to be published in a short period of time. There is a page charge of 100 RMB yuan/per journal-page for articles published in the "Short Communication Section'' only.

4. Manuscripts written in the English language only will be accepted for publication.

5. Manuscript should be typed double-spaced on single-sided A4 paper with wide margins. The author's name should be typed on the line below the title, and the affiliation and address should follow on the next line.

6. The essential contents of each paper should be briefly recapitulated in an abstract not exceeding 250 words. List of key words and AMS subject classifications should be supplied following the abstract. The subject classifications are listed in the Annual Index of Mathematical Reviews.

7. Signs and symbols must be clearly identifiable. Careful distinction should be made between different letter types and between capital and lower case letters. Words or symbols likely to be confused should be identified in the margin in pencil. Words that are to be printed in bold face type should be underscored with a single wave line.

8. References should styled and punctuated according to the following examples:

    [1] Rockafellar R.T., Lagrange multipliers and optimality. SIAM Rev.35 (2) (1993), 183--238.

[2] John F., Partial Differential Equations. Springer-Verlag, New York, Heidelberg, 1982.

[3] Dafermos C.M., Characteristics in hyperbolic conservation laws. In: Nonlinear Analysis and Mechanics, Heriot-Watt Symposium, Vol.I,R.J.Knops (ed.), Pitman, London, 1977, 1--58.

For journal names, follow "Abbreviations of Names of Serials" reviewed in Mathematical Reviews. Cite references in the text by Arabicnumber between square brackets, as [1], [1, 2], [1, Theorem 1.1], etc.

9. After the manuscript has been accepted by JPDE the author who has written his paper in TEX is encouraged to send the TEX file to the Editorial Board. To facilitate communication between the authors, editors and publisher, the author should furnish an e-mail address and/or fax number on the title page of the manuscript.

10. Thirty reprints without covers will be provided free of charge; additional reprints may be ordered.
