　　Chemistry Department is one of the first three departments established when Zhengzhou University (ZZU) was founded in 1956,Through almost 50 years development, she has been constructing as one of the key departments and schools within the university. Under the direction and supports from the State Education Department, State Nature Science Foundation, Hanan Province Education Department, and the other related administration, Chemistry Department has developed to educate students becoming the first class chemists, “the national base for the fundamental sciences research and training”. Up to now, the departments research programs and faculty members place her at the leading edge of scientific research. In the department, our approach to graduate education appeals to students with goals that range from teaching at colleges and universities to conducting academic research in university or industrial settings. There is a state owned Organic Chemistry Postdoctoral Research Laboratory, the issued seven Doctoral Degree Programs , and nine Master Degree Programs. Chemistry Department has educated more than 7,000 bachelor degree undergraduates, 1000 masters, 150 doctors. There are now 781 undergraduates, more than 550 masters, more than 50 doctors students and 8 post doctoral researchers studying in our department.

Research is an integral part of Chemistry Department’s educational process. In addition to the strong programs in the four traditional areas of chemistry, organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry, and analytic chemistry, Chemistry Department owns the facilities of pharmaceutical institute, applied chemistry institute, electrochemistry institute, functional coordinate chemistry institute, and industry catalysis institute, the center of environmental science and engineering, the Applied Organic Chemistry key laboratory for Henan universities and Henan chemical biology chemical key laboratories, chemical biology laboratory, the analysis and measurement center (authorized by the quality control of Henna Province), the intermediate chemistry laboratory, the fundamental chemistry and comprehensive chemistry teaching and experiment centers. Among the majors, organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, analyze chemistry, pharmaceutic chemistry and industry catalysis are the key disciplines of Henan Province, physical chemistry is one of the ZZU’s key courses, respectively. The State Support 211-Program Foundation classifies the branch of organic chemistry and application as a Research Unit to invest intensively for its commitment to graduate education and research.
